Plastic bags are not accepted in curbside recycling. They are too thin to recycle with hard plastics and will get caught in the processing machinery. 

Since 2012, retailers in San Luis Obispo County have been prohibited from using single-use plastic checkout bags in their stores. With the IWMA’s ordinance against single-use plastic bags, SLO County has joined over 100 other California communities who are reducing litter, air and water pollution from plastic bag manufacturing and landfill size and costs. Retailers offer paper bags instead of plastic ones, and customers will be charged a minimum of 10¢ per paper checkout bag.

Customers are encouraged to bring along reusable bags.
